Crafting With The Kids

Crafting with the kids:

Tie-dye art:

Creating tie-dye art is easier than you might think as once you have a bucket with your tie-dye solution you’ll be able to slowly dunk a wide variety of items into your tie-dye solution. For example, you may want to tie-dye inexpensive plain white t-shirts or white canvas shoes. Your kids will love getting to create their own one-of-a-kind creations by immersing their items in your tie-dye mixture themselves. You can even dunk plain mugs in order to create fun tie-dye mugs.

DIY masks:

All you need to create fun masks with your kids are cardboard sheets in a wide variety of colors, elastic string, glitter glue pens, and decorations such as feathers. Some ideas that your kids may be interested in include making superhero-inspired masks such as a batman mask or a wonder woman mask or making animal masks. For example, your child may fall in love with the idea of crafting a tiger-inspired mask. One way to make sure that your DIY masks look great is to print out templates to use to cut out your cardboard masks.

If you have young children it’s a great idea to cut out basic mask shapes for your kids which they can then decorate, for their own safety. Or if you have older kids you may want to use safety scissors instead of normal scissors. If you love the idea of this particular project and don’t want to use elastic string to keep your kids’ masks on, you can also purchase straws that you can use as the handles for masquerade-style masks.

Felt based craft projects:

Felt-based craft projects are ideal for elementary school-age children and can be crafted using fabric glue instead of a sewing machine or a needle and thread. Some examples of felt based craft projects that you may want to try out with your kids include felt based soft animals and felt based finger puppets. You can even purchase cheap felt based DIY kits to crate felt based finger puppets.

DIY calendars:

It’s a fun idea to create a DIY calendar with your kids. For example, let your kids choose 12 different photos. One for each month of the year. It’s a fun idea to select a special photo for each month that one of your family member’s birthdays. For example, if your son’s birthday is in May, you may want to get him to choose one of his favorite photos of himself to display as May’s photo of the month.

Creating fun dream catchers is simple. Simply cut the middle section out of paper plates and decorate the middle of your dream catches with colorful pieces of string. Make sure to tie feathers to the bottom of your kids’ dream catchers.
